Social network traffic declining

I have only just seen this, but according to Forbes, Facebook, Myspace and Bebo are all going backwards in the UK as measured by unique monthly visitors. They are citing Nielsen.
If this is true, and holds up it is bad news for the internet sector generally. We need success stories.

    According to either the same report or a follow on commentary (I'll take a look for it), "silo" or niche social sites did well - BBC Communities was up, as were other more interest-related networks.

    I'll see if I can track down the data.
  • I`ve seen some reports that "niche" sites may be growing audiences at a faster rate, but I think the big news recently is that ad-clicks are underwhelming on all social network sites. This was shown by poor numbers from Google`s SN deals. Ad-clicks on more targeted sites might be worth more CPM wise, but I think the jury is still out on this.
