It's not what you can auction them up to in the short term, it what value these businesses create over the longer term.
I agree we need to build companies for value and in the long run it doesn't help anyone when companies are bought for huge valuations which are then written down by 50% within a couple of years. My point is that those companies which look like they will generate value are likely to continue to get snapped up.
So it's fear and greed, really.
